Nokia 770 and plazes

Today is a good day for intergalactical hitchhikers and also the anniversary of the Maemo project, so this could come in handy: a Plazes applet for the Nokia 770. It is based on the python plazer for linux. I created an installer package which you can download from here. So far, this is purely command line based, and you need to have xterm and python2.4 installed. Run ‘pyplazes’ and open ‘www.plazes.com’ in your browser manually. I will write some graphical user interface if I have the time.
Update: The debian package for the new OS 2006 can be found here.

Is there any chance you can put this out as a tar archive or an .armel package? .debs won’t run on the 770 itself and I currently don’t have scratchbox and maemo installed on the pc to recompile.

have you tried the new version for the 2006 OS?

The installer on the Nokia770 should automatically handle the .deb file.
Otherwise, you can unpack the deb package itself with
ar xvf pyplazes770.deb
and find the code in data.tar.gz

I just tried that one and it worked. A little more googling would have brought that up for me. Thanks.

I installed the deb on OS2006
I open Xtermn
I type in “pyplazes” without the quotes.
I get the answer:
sh: pyplazes: not found
I also tried entering
python pyplazes
(message like: no such file or directory)
What am I doing wrong (I’m not a computer expert).
Do I have to be root, or what else?
Thanks

You need to type in “pyplazes.py”, it should be in your executable PATH.
Use the TAB key for automatic file name completion.
For OS2006 you need pyplazes770-2.deb from my other post.

Hi!.
I was wondering if with the holder on, you are able to desplace the 770 horizontally so that the USB port (or all of them) fit the hole so they are usable. I was thinking about connecting the audio output to the car-audio input, and the USB to a portable HardDisk carrying my MP3 collection.
Nice blogging, keep it up!

Hi!
We’re now reworking your pyplazes Maemo versio to be more “Hildonized”. There is also a Maemo Garage project for it now:
